Veritas In Caritate

The History Of Our School

In 1912, the first S.Sp.S. missionaries arrived in the Philippines and founded Holy Ghost College, now known as the College of the Holy Spirit, in 1913. Through the Sisters’ unwavering faith and dedication, the college has evolved into a modern and growing learning institution with branches in different parts of the Philippines. And in 1978, following the government’s plan to help ease the congestion in educational institutions in the Manila area, the School of the Holy Spirit of Quezon (SHSQC) was founded to operated as a satellite school of CHS Mendiola.

SHSQC was built at Capitol Hills, Quezon City, near the Interim Batasang Pambansa, on May 20, 1978. Initially offering kindergarten through the first year of high school, SHSQC had 847 students enrolled in the 1979-1980 academic year. Due to a significant increase in enrollment the following year, a new high school building was constructed in 1981. The first group of high school students graduated in March 1983. The school then has prioritized performance evaluation through surveys and accreditations. And in 1986, PAASCU granted a three-year Certificate of Accreditation. The school achieved Level II status during PAASCU evaluations in 1990, 1995, and 2001, earning a five-year deregulated status. This commitment to quality education reflects the school’s mission to provide comprehensive education and support community development.

As SHSQC expanded, the surrounding communities grew, leading to the establishment of several parishes. In 1980, the Holy Spirit Parish was founded at the request of BF Homes QC residents. This was followed by the development of Holy Spirit Drive in Isidora Hills, the Parish of Jesus Lord of Divine Mercy in Mapayapa Village, and Barangay Holy Spirit, QC District 2, in 1982. These developments highlight the school’s influence and commitment to progress while reassuring the community of its ability to adapt to modern challenges. The school has significantly improved since its early days. It has upgraded its facilities and resources in a planned and organized way, with significant improvements to its facilities from its 25th anniversary until today. These efforts show the school’s commitment to a sustainable lifestyle and building strong community relationships.
2012-2013 marked a milestone for the school as the SSpS Congregation celebrated its 100th anniversary in the Philippines with the theme, “Afire with Gratitude and Commitment to Life.” The school community expressed gratitude for the SSpS Sisters’ educational contributions and committed to promoting life in all forms. A significant centennial gift to the Holy Spirit School system was the publication of the “Afire with Gratitude Series,” a collection of textbooks on Christian Living. This celebration inspires us to continue our educational mission for many more years.
In response to the challenges posed by the Philippine Department of Education’s K to 12 programs, the School of the Holy Spirit of Quezon City demonstrated remarkable resilience and commitment to excellence. By constructing the Holy Family building for its Senior High School students, the school showcased its dedication to providing a robust education. Expanding its academic offerings while upholding quality through thorough audits, the institution proudly received re-accreditation from PAASCU in November 2018. Despite the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, the school remained steadfast in its belief that learning must continue, adapting to new methods and fostering a spirit of growth. As it navigates the ever-evolving educational landscape, the school stands firm in its mission to offer inspiring learning experiences, embracing both online and blended learning with unwavering determination.

The School of the Holy Spirit of Quezon City is dedicated to providing a comprehensive and holistic Christian education for all students. We strive to foster a supportive community that embodies the values of the Holy Trinity—respect for individuality, equality, open communication, unity, and purpose. In our journey of growth and development, SHSQC is committed to creating a joyful and enthusiastic learning environment. Guided by our philosophy and vision of “Veritas in Caritate”—Truth in Love—we maintain an unwavering commitment to these principles, striving to integrate them into every aspect of our school’s operations.
